Behind the piece

Form, meaning
and making.

A closer look at the visual language, cultural context and care of this piece.

The piece

The tall format gives this single Narsingha form room to trace its full curved silhouette. Set against a deep red field, the gold-toned object is surrounded by narrow moulded profiles and a woven geometric border in earthy reds, dark green and black. The elongated composition works naturally on a narrow wall or as part of a grouped display.

Cultural context

The Narsingha is a curved ceremonial horn closely associated with the soundscape of Himachali processions and festivals. Presented here as a visual form, its sweeping curve brings rhythm, movement and a strong sense of place to the frame.

Craftsmanship

The textured Narsingha form is mounted vertically to emphasise its elegant curve, flared ends and fine chain detail. Deep red backing, narrow gold-toned mouldings and a woven border complete the tall glazed composition.

Care

Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, persistent humidity and heat. Dust the outer frame or cover gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. If the glazed surface needs cleaning, apply a small amount of suitable cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying the piece. Do not use metal polish, abrasives or moisture on the central object or textile without confirmed maker guidance.
